Abstract
Wavelength tunable optical short pulse generation by the use of a gain-switched Fabry–Pérot laser diode in a simple self-seeding scheme is presented. The laser external cavity consists of a tunable filter, two circulators and an erbium-doped fiber amplifier, which provides a wavelength selective and intensity controllable feedback to the laser diode. Sidemode suppression ratio of the output pulses obtained is close to or larger than 30 dB over a relatively wide wavelength-tuning range of 30 nm.
