Abstract
Constructing offshore airport is the development trend of coastal countries. Although this type of airport has advantages such as saving land resources, reducing urban pollution, improving takeoff and landing safety, the transportation connection between the airport and adjacent areas is weakened significantly, which affects the operational efficiency of the airport. Furthermore, the occurrence of natural disasters or certain extreme circumstances may endanger the safety of passengers. So it is necessary to study the water transportation demand and method of opening up sea corridors of offshore airport. The demand for various types of berths in offshore airport is studied in this paper, and the method of calculating the number and size of oil berths, passenger berths, material berths, and ro-ro berths is emphatically discussed. The berth allocation of Kansai International Airport and Hong Kong International Airport are analyzed as examples. The research results can provide a design reference to determine the type, number and size of berths when planning and constructing offshore airports.
