Abstract

This article deals with one of the essential problems of the building activity of interwar Chisinau: the city’s water supply system. On the basis of archival documents, official reports, and literature, we analyzed the components of a strategic objective of the second largest city in Romania, according to the number of population. The external and internal factors that were at the basis of the industrial activity of providing water to the inhabitants of Chisinau were studied. The geographical framework, the geological structure of the area concerned, the activity of the Water and Sewage Plant, the water pipeline, the sewage system, the staff involved in water supply, the modernization projects in the area concerned, etc. The study also focuses on the building activity, which approached the subject from an administrative position. While in the 1920s the old urban infrastructure, created in Tsarist Bessarabia, was used, in the 1930s there was a revival of investment in the development of Chisinau’s water supply infrastructure.
