Abstract

Washington has a very short attention span. Although the new Congress has been in place for just a couple months, pundits and politicos are already looking ahead to the next big thing. Like a fickle teenager, Washington has decided the new Congress is over and is instead focusing on the 2016 presidential race. If any presidential hopefuls want to earn the title of education president, columnist Maria Ferguson offers a few suggestions: Stop worrying about what your party thinks of your ideas, never claim the public education system is broken, use evidence when offering solutions to the challenges facing public education, and understand that education is a deeply personal issue for many voters.
