Abstract

The presence of American armed forces in South Vietnam presented their command with not only military and political challenges, but also those of a medical nature. The American army had the most developed and efficient system of medical battlefield protection. This system guaranteed the quick evacuation of the wounded from the battlefield and efficient hospitalization, but it also provided sanitary and epidemiological protection for the troops in theater. This article attempts to highlight this aspect of the activities of the American medical services during the Second Indochina War.
