Abstract
Bonding a magneto-optic garnet to III-V compound semiconductor and LiNbO3 is discussed focused on the application to waveguide optical isolators. Two types of waveguide isolators, an interferometric isolator and a semi-leaky isolator, are described. The interferometric isolator uses nonreciprocal phase shift. The isolator has the advantage of integratability with optical active devices, since we can use a GaInAsP guiding layer. The semi-leaky isolator, which is composed of a magneto-optic garnet guiding and a LiNbO3 upper cladding layer has the advantages of large fabrication tolerance and wide operating wavelength range. The performance of fabricated isolators is also described.
