Abstract
Assuming from longtermed changes in the fields of scientific publishing and information management the conditions and possible conclusions of this development will be discussed. From their point of view librarians, publishers or scientific authors will each have a different perception of what a (digital) library is. As an example the functionality of the digital library project in Hessen is described, using standard search-and-retrieval protocols (Z39.50, HTTP) for accessing OPAC and client-server-databases with full-text databases.
