Abstract

Densities and speeds of sound for the binary liquid mixtures of propylene glycol monomethyl ether (1-methoxy-2-propanol), CH3OCH2CH2CH2OH, propylene glycol monoethyl ether (1-ethoxy-2-propanol), C2H5OCH2CH2CH2OH, propylene glycol monopropyl ether (1-propoxy-2-propanol), C3H7OCH2CH2CH2OH, and propylene glycol monobutyl ether (1-butoxy-2-propanol), C4H9OCH2CH2CH2OH with methyl acetoacetate (1-methyl 3-oxobutanoate), CH3OCOCH2COCH3 have been measured over the whole composition range using Anton Paar DSA 5000 density and speed of sound analyzer at temperatures T=(288.15, 293.15, 298.15, 303.15, and 308.15) K and atmospheric pressure. The density values have been used to calculate excess molar volumes, VmE, whereas speeds of sound results were used to calculate deviation in isentropic compressibility, ∆KS. The variations of these properties with the composition and temperature are discussed in terms of molecular interactions.
