Abstract

Densities and speeds of sound for the binary liquid mixtures of propylene glycol monomethyl ether (1-methoxy-2-propanol), CH3OCH2CH2CH2OH, propylene glycol monoethyl ether (1-ethoxy-2-propanol), C2H5OCH2CH2CH2OH, propylene glycol monopropyl ether (1-propoxy-2-propanol), C3H7OCH2CH2CH2OH, and propylene glycol monobutyl ether (1-butoxy-2-propanol), C4H9OCH2CH2CH2OH, with n-alkyl acetate over the whole composition range have been measured using an Anton Paar DSA 5000 M densimeter at T = (288.15, 293.15, 298.15, 303.15, and 308.15) K and atmospheric pressure. Experimental data on density and speeds of sound have been used to derive excess quantities like excess molar volume, VmE, and deviation in isentropic compressibility, ΔκS. The results have been discussed in terms of intermolecular interactions and their dependence on the composition and temperature.
