Abstract
Length changes (volume changes) in various FeNi based metallic glasses [(Fe x Ni 1− x ) 78Si 8B 14, Fe 35Ni 45B 20 and Fe 27Ni 53P 14B 6] were measured as a function of annealing temperature, and the volume changes during the structural relaxation ( ΔV R) and crystallization ( ΔV C and the total volume change ( ΔV E) were estimated, where ΔV E is the volume change between the as-quenched state and crystallized state. It has been found that, in (Fe x Ni 1− x ) 78Si 8B 14 metallic glasses, the value of total volume change depends on the Fe/Ni ratio. Particularly, the value of ΔV E(0.80%) in Fe 15Ni 63Si 8B 14 metallic glass is extremely small compared with those in other (Fe x Ni 1− x ) 78Si 8B 14 results may indicate that the short range structure (local arrangements) in Fe x Ni 1− x ) 78Si 8B 14 metallic glasses differs in each composition.
