Abstract

As the popularity of distributed generators (DGs) increasing, existing distribution power network is becoming weaker and weaker. Therefore, a major change is threatening the voltage stability of distribution power network. And it can be alleviated by adding additional compensation devices. A series compensator is applied to improve the power transfer between a weak distribution power network, load and DGs by increasing the voltage stability of power network. A new droop control scheme based on virtual impedance is introduced to improve grid voltage stability. A low voltage power network model with SSSCs simulation study is performed in Plecs to assess the ability of the SSSC for its application in enhancement of grid voltage stability. The proposed droop control strategy is further validated on a hardware in the loop (Hil) test platform based on RT-Box.
