Abstract

Aviaries as a type of floor management for layers have a higher housing density per m3 and hence higher room temperatures due to the better utilisation possibilities between floor and ceiling. Adopting this keeping method results in greater deviations in animal behaviour and performance and a profit difference per egg, dependent on the market price. Possible animal welfare problems arising from more freedom of movement and group size, should be solved soon in the future. More qualified staff can only minimise part of the animal keeping problems.
