Abstract
We report calculations of the longitudinal recoil ion momentum in multiply ionizing collisions of highly charged ions impacting on neon. The work is performed within the framework of the Vlasov independent-particle model in which the electron cloud is described by a semiclassical phase space distribution that interacts with the nuclei. Results are presented for 10 MeV F8+ and C6+ as well as 1.4 MeV/n U33+ projectiles and compared with recent data on the 10 MeV F9+-Ne system. Some explanation is provided for the weak dependence of the longitudinal recoil momentum on the recoil charge state for direct multiple ionization and for the observed increase of this quantity with recoil charge in close collisions.
