Abstract

The direct drive linear generators (DDLG) are proven very effective for generation of electricity from the oceanic wave. The existing DDLG is made of conventional steel cores and neodymium iron boron (NdFeB) permanent magnets which result in poor electrical power generation. In this paper, recently invented high graded magnetic cores and permanent magnets are applied in the DDLG for generation of more electrical power. The simulation results have been obtained by ANSYS/Maxwell considering three magnetic cores; conventional steel, Vitroperm 500F, and Supermendur core. Simulation results explore that, the generator made of Supermendur core produces the highest electrical power than that of the other magnetic cores. On the other hand, instead of the conventional NdFeB, high graded N38 and N52 permanent magnets are proposed in the DDLG. Finally, Supermendur core and N52 permanent magnets are proposed to be used in the DDLG for higher electrical power generation. Simulation results exhibit excellent output of the proposed DDLG.
