Abstract

Superconductor winding based direct drive linear generator (DDLG) provides large output power than that of the DDLG with copper winding. Most of the superconducting DDLG are designed with yttrium barium copper oxide (YBCO) tape or wire. But, the critical temperature of BSCCO Bi-2223 is higher than YBCO. Therefore, Bi-2223 is proposed in this paper for designing the DDLG because of the ease of maintaining cryogenic temperature. The generated power is increased to even higher value with the application of high graded magnetic core, MS-Carlite and special permanent magnet, NdFeB N46SH. The condition of maximum power of the proposed DDLG is determined with extensive simulation results. It is found that, around 46% more electrical power (rms) is generated with the proposed DDLG than that of its conventional counterpart.
