Abstract
We examined 52 culture-proven bacterial corneal ulcers between July 1977 and November 1978 and identified Serratia marcescens in eight. Gram-negative ulcers, especially the S. marcescens ulcers, were associated with previous contact-lens wear more often than the gram-positive ulcers were. Seven of the eight patients with S. marcescens ulcers responded to intensive medical therapy alone. The eighth patient required a conjunctival flap.
