Abstract
Geriatric ophthalmology is assuming an increased importance in the 1980s. Never before have elderly citizens had the opportunities for visual rehabilitation and vision care that they have today. Geriatric ophthalmology stresses the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of vision problems in an understanding, caring, and efficient manner. This article discusses three aspects of geriatric ophthalmology: facts about vision and aging, modern advances in geriatric ophthalmology, and recommendations.
