Abstract

The visible electroluminescence (EL) from porous silicon (PS) diodes has been studied in relation to the electrical contact problem. As an electrical contact for carrier injection into luminescent PS, conducting polypyrrole (PP) films were electrochemically formed into PS layers. From the results of electrical characterization studies of the fabricated PP/PS interface, including measurements of the EL characteristics, it is demonstrated that the PP films penetrateare into the PS layer and act as an useful large-area electrical contact for the PS light-emitting diode.
