Abstract
This article gives a perspective on Digital Human Modeling (DHM) and Virtual Ergonomics „Vision of the Future“. Based on a concise comeback in DHM history a „plateau“ evolution phase for the past 15 years has been identified. 2 findings are suggested: 1- Very few research results live into commercial DHM and 2- there is a missing bridge between 3D users and the ergonomics domain. To change the way product and workplace designers do Virtual Ergonomics in the future, 2 essential developments are presented: 1- a Smart Posturing Engine providing probable and repeatable 3D manikins postures based on minimal users inputs and 2- use this Smart Posturing Engine as a foundation in an easy to use solution by all product and workplace designers to help them take decisions independently of their ergonomics knowledge.
