Abstract

The history of Russian viola performance is closely tied with the development of solo, orchestral and ensemble repertoire, as well as its formation in space-time dynamics and perspective. The significance of the instrument in the cultural life of the country in the second half of the XVIII century is reflected in the the works of the renowned Russian composer I.E. Khandoshkin. In this study, scientific research, documentary and memoir materials, and other valuable sources are used to explore this topic. The main focus is on "Six Old Russian Songs", a Concerto for Viola and String Orchestra C–dur, which served as an example of a brilliant musical mystification of the mid-20th century, and its actual author, violinist M.E. Goldstein.
