Abstract
The history of medicine and physicians is a fascinating and intriguing subject. There is much to be learned from the trials and tribulations of our predecessors and their accomplishments. In reading the stories of various physicians, we experience an appreciation of that which they have provided us and their ability to change the course of medical thinking and practice. We are led to understand that there may be a life outside of medicine in some instances that transcends what the physician could have accomplished in the medical field. The poet, artist, sculptor, missionary, and writer are only some of the additional capabilities of some physicians. To look into the historical aspects of physicians opens a unique vista that is our heritage.
