Abstract

Regional programming by the Cooperative Extension Service can be an effective way to stretch limited departmental Extension Service personnel and financial resources while at the same time improving the quality and effectiveness of poultry-related communication and relationships between the universities and industry. This is especially true in those areas of the United States where die number of poultry clientele and poultry specialists within a given state or states is limited. Extension Service administrators and the heads of animal and poultry science departments involving poultry, poultry Extension Service specialists, and industry personnel should work together to develop more multistate, planned regional programs. Such programs should include educational conferences and workshops, industry-oriented educational newsletters and bulletins, and 4-H and other youth-oriented publications. They should also include applied poultry research programs that address industry problems, issues, and concerns applicable to the regional poultry production area.
