Abstract

Effective state or regional programs by the Cooperative Extension Service must serve the needs of the poultry industry. If these needs are being served, support from industry will in turn be generated for university poultry programs. Regional Extension Service programs may be appropriate in some instances. If adjacent states have a limited number of Cooperative Extension specialists, it may be advantageous to utilize the expertise of the different specialists in developing regional programs. Some disadvantages of regional Extension Service programs are funding or proper cost-sharing by states, extra travel, and proper recognition of the specialists' efforts in each state.
