Abstract

The life and death of limited companies in French Indochina brings a new light on the economic life of the colony : if enterprises creation cycles follow the upbeat times of strong development, the vanishing rhythm of companies seems to have an agenda of its own. The most destructive phase does not occur during times of crisis but during periods of strong growth. Thus, neither paradise, nor hell, colonial Indochina appears to be a highly competitive market. If indubitably the big conglomerates, the most powerful lobbies or monopolistic companies turned the Indochinese market into a regulated market, small limited compagnies had to find their way.
