Abstract

The three diphosphates materials MCuP2O7(M = Ba, Ca and Zn) were synthesized by solid-state reaction and characterized. Using X-ray powder diffraction, infrared and Raman spectroscopy. The external and internal normal modes of these materials were studied by the factor group analysis. The analysis of the infrared and Raman spectra shows the non-linearity of the POP bridge. And also, that the structures of these salts are centrosymmetric. These materials have been studied in order to investigate its electrochemical behavior for corrosion resistance of mild steel in a corrosive medium (HCl 1.0 M). The inhibition performance of the three materials was evaluated by the open circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization technique (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The morphology of mild steel was examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). The results show that the three materials have good efficiency for the mild steel corrosion inhibition with a percentage reaches 89% for Ba based material.
