Abstract

The atomic dynamics and vibrational properties of YbAs2S4 and YbAs2Se4 compounds has been studied. The studies were carried out by infrared spectroscopy at room temperature in the frequency range ν = 400–2000 cm−1. When analyzing the obtained spectra, 8 main maxima were observed. As a result of the analysis, it was found that these maxima correspond to the vibrations of the metal (As) – chalcogen (S,Se) bonds. The differences in the infrared spectra of the YbAs2S4 and YbAs2Se4 compounds are explained by the difference in the ionic radii of the sulfur and selenium atoms in the divalent state.
