Abstract
Steady self-excited vibrations of a bowed string with flexural rigidity and internal friction subject to small air resistance are analysed by Fourier series solutions by means of series transformation method. The existence of small flexural rigidity brings about a large increase of the magnitude and fluctuation of the necessary bow force to maintain vibration. Small internal friction has an effect of mitigating these bad influences of flexural rigidity.
