Abstract
Maglev vehicles are characterized by light carbodies and heavy unsprung masses of superconducting magnet. Low stiffness of light carbodies cause flexural vibration (beaming) of carbodies. In this paper, control of the beaming is studied for improving the ride quality of maglev vehicles. The beaming is assumed to be controlled by piezo actuators buried in carbodies like smart structures of space structures or buildmgs. Controller is designed by H∞ control treory. Methodology for designing the controller and the simulation results are shown. Ride quality, especially the central arts of carbodies, is improved by the reduction of the beaming.
