Abstract

In this project we present the state of question regarding the archaeological remains of textiles in the Iberian Peninsula between the 1st and 3rd century AC. The textiles are material vestiges of undeniable complexity and a magnificent source for investigating social identity. However, for a long time, its ephemeral nature has made them an unexplored research path during Roman times. Thanks to the development of an analytical methodology and to the contribution of Archaeology, the study of textiles is gaining recognition and awareness. Consequently, our investigation aims to gather all the remains of archaeological textiles in Hispania, to analyze the evidence, and to showcase the potential of research for Roman Textile Archaeology. As a result, we hope to visualize and reinforce the relevance of textile vestiges in the Roman Hispania and in doing so, the study of Ephemeral Archaeology in Antiquity.
