Dos canteras romanas en Colonia Patricia Corduba: Peñatejada y Santa Ana de la Albaida

Abstract

The Penatejada and Santa Ana of the Albaida quarries are two important archaeological sites located North of Cordoba, which, since Roman Times, were used to mine large quantities of limestone(vid. Fig. I). This stone was the basis of the town's historical buildings until the 18th century. The quarries are two examples of extraction in galleries, quite unusuals in the Iberian Peninsula. Its study is fundamental for the obtention of knowledge of both, the way in which the buiding materials were extracted as well as Roman buildlng practices in Colonia Patricia, in particular the large public monumental buildings constructed in the 1st century A.D.
