Abstract

The action of glycodiazine in healthy human subjects is reported. The reduction of blood sugar level and the rise of plasma insulin concentration depend on the glycodiazine concentration in peripheral plasma, whether the glycodiazine is given orally or infused intravenously. In subjects who have fasted for 15 hours a plasma glycodiazine concentration of 1–2 mg. % caused a rise in insulin concentration in peripheral plasma. The slight, transient rise in insulin concentration in peripheral plasma corresponds to a pronounced hypoglycemia. To produce a comparable hypoglycemia by exogenous administration of insulin, a much more pronounced increase of peripheral insulin concentration is necessary.
