Abstract

ABSTRACT A structural analysis-based approach to simulating the long term behaviour of a railway track under traffic loading. A general calculation procedure is presented in this paper, aimed at simulating the response, and more specifically the long term evolution of the residual settlement, of a railway track platform subjected to repeated traffic loading. This procedure relies upon a structural analysis approach which incorporates, as a key feature, the use of a cyclic constitutive law for the constituent materials, such as the ballast or other granular materials. The whole procedure, which is carried out following a step by step algorithm, involves a preliminary elastic calculation allowing to determine the stress cycles generated by the traffic load at any point of the structure. The second part of this contribution is more particularly focused on the latter aspect of the problem, in the case of a railroad platform, where the rather complex interactions prevailing between rail, sleepers and underlyin...
