Abstract

ABSTRACT Most engineering design methods for inclusion-reinforced geotechnical structures, are based upon theoretical models aimed at describing their mechanical behaviour. Three such models are successively presented in this paper, and their respective advantages are discussed. The mixed modelling approach, which proves most suitable for performing stability analyses of reinforced structures. The homogenisation method, which is particularly relevant in the situation of densely distributed reinforcements, where it dramatically reduces the computational time. And finally, the multiphase model which may be considered as a generalisation of the homogenisation concept, making it possible to incorporate shear and bending effects of the reinforcements, as well as a matrix-inclusion interaction law.
