Abstract

Verrucous carcinoma, a variant of squamous cell carcinoma, was first described as a distinct clinical and histopathological entity by Ackerman in 1948. In this paper, a verrucous carcinoma of the tongue occarring in a 55-year-old man is reported. The patient was treated by neoadjuvant chemotherapy (CDDP, PEP) and surgical resection. There was neither local recurrence nor distant metastasis for 10 months. For adovanced tumors, neoadjuvant chemotherapy appears to be significantly effective. 82 cases of verrucous carcinoma of the oral cavity, reported in Japanese literature, were reviewed.
