Abstract
With bis-(β-hydroxyethyl)-sebacate and an equimolar blend of bis-(β-hydroxyethyl)- esters of sebacic and terephthalic acid the polycondensation (3–4 mm layer thickness; 0·2–0·4 Torr) by a melt process initiated by manganese proceeds as a second order reaction within 0·70 < fp < 0·97. The rate constants of the polycondensation of aromatic and aliphatic bisglycol esters ( t=250°C; 5 × 10 −4 mole Mn(Ac) 2/mole of the monomer) suggest an A Ac2-reaction. The activation energy of the formation of polyethylene sebacate was found to be 7·7±1·6 kcal/mole.
