Abstract

Primary external fixation of humerus shaft fractures is beneficial in polytrauma patients and for fractures with severe soft tissue injuries. The 3-tube-modular technique has proven to be a quick and reliable procedure. After recovery from the initial trauma, secondary internal stabilisation with plate osteosynthesis or intramedullary nail can be performed later. This review shows our results and complications in 57 cases of primary external fixation of humeral shaft fractures and subsequent secondary procedures.
