Abstract
Kousatiefkonstruksies in Chichewa en Malayalam word deur Baker (1988), binne die teoretiese raamwerk van Chomsky (1986), beskou as identies met Romaanse kousatiefkonstruksies van die fair tipe. Chichewa en Malayalam inkorporeer die kousatiefverkwoord in die kousatiefmatrikswerkwoord in die sintaksis wat resulteer in 'n komplekse werkwoord. Sintaktiese werkwoordinkorporasie skyn nie toegepas te word in Romaanse kousatiewe nie. Baker (1988) stelvoor dat Romaanse kousatiewe inkorporasie vertoon van oppervlakte-struktuur na Logiese Vorm, terwyl Chichewa en Malayalam sintaktiese inkorporasie vertoon van diepte-struktuur na oppervlakte-struktuur.
