Abstract
Very detailed studies of the veins of the orbit were made at the end of last century. And now the subject has come to the fore again with anatomicoradiologic studies on cadavers (Salamon, Guerinel, Louis, Giudicelli and Finori, 1965), which coincide — and this is not accidental — with a growing interest in orbital venography. The investigation has so far not been widely adopted because of difficulties of execution. The techniques proposed are: Surgical exposure of the angular vein with puncture (Dejean and Boudet, 1951) or catheterisation of the vessel (Offret and Aron-Rosa, 1965). Percutaneous puncture of the angular vein (Yasargil, 1957; du Boulay, 1961). Surgical exposure of the facial vein at the angle of the jaw and catheterisation as far as the angular vein (Brick, 1961; Brovkina, Serbinenko and Ziangirova, 1964).
