Abstract

In recent years, the development of ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) is promoted. In many systems for ITS, vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems and ranging systems are very important. A vehicle can automatically get the information of surrounding vehicles by vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems. And it can measure distances among their vehicles by ranging systems. It is inefficient from the view of economy and effective use of transmission medium that a vehicle has two systems separately. Therefore, Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication and Ranging System using Spread Spectrum Technique called Spread Spectrum (SS) Boomerang Transmission System has been proposed. In this system, a vehicle (Vehicle-A) transmits its PN code to another vehicle (Vehicle-B). Vehicle-B replies the PN code adding its information. And Vehicle-A gets the information of Vehicle-B and the distance between vehicles. However, this system cannot measure the location of Vehicle-B because each vehicle has one pair of receiver and transmitter. In this paper, we propose Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication and Location System using SS Technique. In the proposed system, Vehicle-A has two receivers on each side of it. And the received signals of Vehicle-A have the phase difference related to position of Vehicle-B. So, Vehicle-A cannot get only the information of Vehicle-B and the distance between vehicles but also the location of Vehicle-B.
