Abstract

We report on the performance and uniformity of dense 2-D six-channel 850-nm vertical cavity surface-emitting laser arrays intended for multimode multicore fiber interconnects. Two circular array designs, differing in their common cathode configuration, are investigated and compared. We demonstrate error-free data transmission (bit-error-rate <;10 -12 ) up to 40 Gb/s and 85 °C for all channels, which can enable an aggregate capacity of 240 Gb/s over a single multicore fiber.
