Abstract

Background: Although craniofacial malformation are relatively common, there is some debate regarding the ideal treatment of severe mandibular or maxillary hypoplasia. Traditionally, patients with severe deficits have been treated with iliac or costochondral bone grafts followed by distraction osteogenesis, with mixed results.
