Abstract

The results of Hartree-Fock self-consistent field calculations show that the change of the probability of electron capture by a 7Be nucleus in excited atoms and ions, caused by the change of electron density at the nucleus, is strongly compensated by a change of opposite sign, caused by the change of exchange and overlap correction factors B x . This compensation is responsible for the smallness of the chemical changes of the 7Be radioactive decay probability experimentally observed.
