Abstract

The effect of plastic deformation on the density of WC-Co hard alloys has been investigated experimentally. The specimens were subjected to nonuniform volumetric compression. The resulting decrease in density is attributed to structural changes, e. g., the formation of submicroscopic cracks in the tungsten carbide grains. An expression is derived for the coefficient of transverse deformation.
