Abstract

13C Magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR) spectroscopic measurements were carried out in order to investigate the interaction between Lewis acid sites in H-ZSM-5 and adsorbed carbon monoxide. A new measure for the “overall” Lewis acidity of zeolites could be derived from the 13C MAS NMR spectroscopic data. Further, the chemical shift of CO adsorbed on Brønsted acid sites and physisorbed CO could be determined to amount to δ B = 178 ppm and δ P = 186 ppm, respectively.
