Abstract

The vapour pressures of {xCH3F + (1 - x )N2O}(1) have been measured by a static method at the triple-point temperature 182.33 K of dinitrogen oxide covering the whole range of mole fractions. This pair was chosen as a model for a binary liquid mixture in which the molecules of one component bear an almost pure dipole, while those of the other have an almost pure quadrupole. The vapour pressures have been used to calculate the excess molar Gibbs free energy GEm of the liquid mixture. GEm was found to be an unsymmetrical positive function of x(1 - x) with its maximum shifted towards the lower values of x. For x = 0.5, GEm (x = 0.5) = (48.5 ± 2.2) J·mol-1. No azeotrope was found.
