Abstract

IntroductionSexual satisfaction is the psychological dimension most assessed in the area of sexual dysfunctions. ObjectiveThis study has aimed to validate a Portuguese male version of the Index of Sexual Satisfaction (ISS), a scale that assesses sexual satisfaction. Material and methodsA total of 305 men, subdivided into a community sample (n=249) and a clinical sample (n=56), participated in this study. They answered the Portuguese version of the questionnaire. ResultsThe main psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of the ISS were demonstrated. DiscussionThe original unidimensional structure of the ISS was replicated. Good values were also obtained in terms of internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha), temporal stability, convergent and divergent validity, and discriminant validity. ConclusionsThe use of the Portuguese male version of the ISS is justified since it has sound psychometric properties.
