Abstract

IntroductionThe sexual response cycle construct constitutes an essential work model in the study of female sexuality. ObjectiveThe purpose of the present study was to cross-validate a Portuguese version of the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), a multidimensional scale that assesses the female sexual response cycle. Material and methodsA total of 375 women, subdivided in a community sample (n=307) and in a clinical sample (n=68), participated in this study by completing the Portuguese version of the questionnaire. ResultsThe main psychometric properties of the Portuguese cross-validated version of the FSFI were demonstrated. DiscussionThe original multidimensional structure of the FSFI was replicated and good values were also obtained in terms of internal consistency, temporal stability, convergent and divergent validity, and discriminant validity. ConclusionsThe use of the Portuguese version of the FSFI is justified and reinforced since it has sound psychometric properties.
