Abstract
The nature of the ground state in the non-Neel phase of Heisenberg Hamiltonians on bipartite lattices will be discussed using a large -N method. Topological effects produce different spin-Peierls or valence bond solid states depending periodically on the magnitude of the spin, with periodicity given by the co-ordination number of the lattice. If time allows, topological effects and statistics of excitations for other Heisenberg and Hubbard models will also be discussed.
