Abstract

The present commercially available Zn 2 SiO 4 :Mn 2+ phosphor requires further improvement because of its long decay time. In this work, the codoping effects of Mg 2+ and Al 3+ /P 5+ upon emission intensity and decay time were investigated. Mg 2+ and Al 3+ /P 5+ cations have favorable influences on the photoluminescent properties of Zn 2 SiO 4 :Mn 2+ . When doped with appropriate amount of Mg 2+ , the intensity of green emission was increased because of the absorption of MgO 4 clusters and the decay time was shortened. When doped with appropriate amount of Al 3+ /P 5+ , the luminescence intensity was enhanced efficiently because of the absorption of AlO 4 , PO 4 clusters, and the decay time was shortened slightly.
