Abstract

The present commercial phosphor Zn 2SiO 4:Mn 2+ requires further improvement because of its long decay time. In this work, the co-doping effects of Ba 2+ and Ti 4+ upon emission intensity and decay time were investigated. Ba 2+ and Ti 4+ cations have favorable influences on the photoluminescent properties. When doped with appropriate amount of Ba 2+, the intensity of green emission was increased 12% and the decay time was shortened 18%. When doped with appropriate amount of Ti 4+, the luminescence intensity was enhanced a little, and the decay time was shortened 14%. Ba 2+ and Ti 4+ were co-doped in Zn 2SiO 4:Mn 2+ system, the luminescence intensity was enhanced 18%, and the decay time was shortened sharply (about 31%).
